My veg patch bible is River Cottage Handbook 4 written by Mark Diacono. When it comes to deciding what veg to grow, Mark suggests starting with making a list of what veg you like, so here goes:
Asparagus, aubergines, beetroot, borlotti beans, brussel sprouts, calabrese, capsicum carrots, cauliflower, celeriac, chard, chilli peppers, Florence fennel, gherkins, garlic, leeks, lettuce, onions, parsnips, potatoes, sorrel, spinach, sprouting broccoli, squash, sweetcorn, turnips.
HUGE problem, we may have a good size allotment, but certainly not enough room to grow that lot! So, now it’s time to ponder exactly what I really would like to grow. Mark suggests to consider growing veg that are expensive to grow. That puts asparagus firmly at the top of the list to get cracking on growing when it’s the right time to do so. But, what else…..
